Kerala Sketchbook captures the vibrant colours, culture, people and character of Kerala, India. From caparisoned elephants and a sketching festival in Thrissur, to sub-alpine tea plantations and colonial bungalows in Munnar and Kumarakom, Auckland-based sketcher Murray Dewhurst sketched all the scenes on location in 45°C heat weather, often surrounded by crowds of onlookers. Coming from sparsely populated New Zealand, he needed to quickly reset his idea of personal space. The 56-page side-stapled booklet contains a total of 45 sketches painted in his signature gouache and kraft paper style.
Murray Dewhurst is an urban sketcher, graphic designer and avid cyclist living in Auckland. His art puts a spotlight on the city’s lesser known gems, its unique mix of cultures and where history merges with the present.
