About the author
Detlef Surrey is a freelance illustrator and comic artist in Berlin. His clients include agencies, publishers and social organizations such as the German Bundestag and Amnesty International. Surrey he studied visual communication at the HdK Berlin. His comic strip Emil appeared in the Berlin city magazine zitty from 1983 to 1991. In 2007, Surrey designed the popular figure for children, Karlchen Adler, for the German Bundestag. Detlef Surrey is a member of the professional association Illustratoren Organisation eV and has been on its board since 2018. Because he enjoys drawing, he always carries a sketchbook with him and uses it to capture what surrounds him—when traveling as well as in his hometown of Berlin.
